Data Protection

Article 13 of the Swiss Federal Constitution and federal data protection legislation provide that every person has the right to privacy and protection of their personal data against misuse. Federal authorities strictly comply with these regulations. Personal data is treated as strictly confidential and will not be disclosed or sold to third parties.

Federal authorities work closely with web-hosting service providers to protect databases against attempts at unauthorised access and take measures to prevent the loss, misuse or falsification of information.

When visiting websites owned by the federal government, the following data is recorded: IP address, date, time, the request sent via the web browser, and all information generally transmitted to the operating system or web browser. This enables anonymous statistical evaluation to help federal authorities improve the content of their websites. The Federal Act on the Surveillance of Postal and Telecommunications Traffic (SPTA) provides for a legal obligation to retain registration data for at least six months.

If you voluntarily make initial contact and register your email address, it will be recorded in a separate database that is not linked to the anonymous data file. You may cancel this registration at any time.
